A delivery of over 200 solar modules has arrived at Bogus Basin, a 501(C)(3) nonprofit recreation area near Boise Idaho, the first milestone in a project to bring clean energy to the non-profit resource in Clēnera’s backyard.
Clēnera donated the modules along with the storage container that will hold them until they can be installed. Altogether, this donation has an in-kind value of over $55,000. Bogus Basin will install approximately 80 of the modules on the roof of the rental shop, near the entrance of main base area and the J.R. Simplot Lodge. The installation is estimated to have a generational capacity of 28 kilowatts.
“Clēnera and its employees have a deep connection with Bogus Basin,” said Clēnera President and CEO Adam Pishl, “Personally, I have fond memories of putting on a pair of skis for the first time up at Bogus Basin, back in the 80’s, and dialing the push button phone to get the recorded ski reports. A lot has changed since then including the need for clean, renewable energy. This is an incredible community resource so close to the Treasure Valley. Our employees are regulars on the mountain, enjoying the skiing and snowboarding during the winter and the mountain biking, hiking and other activities during the summer. The team at Bogus Basin share Clēnera’s values of stewardship for the land and preserving our resources for future generations. We are proud to help deliver solar energy to their operations.”
The success of this effort will come from many partnerships. Bogus Basin successfully received a grant of $10,000 from the Wells Fargo Foundation to help cover engineering and installation costs. Other companies with local roots will help round out this project.
“We are excited to receive this donation and work with Clēnera to achieve our sustainability goals,” said Bogus Basin General Manager Brad Wilson. “We look forward to seeing these panels mounted on the rental shop and the future opportunities to capture solar power on the mountain.”
The installation of the panels is anticipated to be completed this Fall. When complete, they will provide clean power to the rental shop. Any additional power will be sent to the nearby patrol building and Coach chairlift. Bogus and Clēnera are working on future projects to install the remaining solar panels throughout the recreation area.
